Former US Olympic bid, organizing committee leaders congratulate LA 2028

PARK CITY, September 26, 2017 – As LA 2028 holds a press conference at the United States Olympic Committee's Media Summit for the 2018 Winter Games in Park City, former US bid and organizing committee leaders showed their support for the return of the Games to the United States for the first time in 26 years.
Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Organizing Committee President Peter Ueberroth said: “I want to congratulate Mayor Eric Garcetti, Chairman Casey Wasserman, CEO Gene Sykes and the entire LA 2028 team on bringing the Games back to a city that loves them. LA 2028 will be a fiscally responsible and achievable Games that will bring our communities together and inspire the world. I know the 30,000 volunteers that made the 1984 Games successful will stand in line to volunteer or buy tickets, and I look forward to seeing the Coliseum’s cauldron lit up again for a historic third time in the City of Angels in 2028.”
NYC 2012 President Daniel Doctoroff said: “Congratulations to Los Angeles, an ideal Olympic city, on its successful bid for the 2028 Games. Bidding for the Olympics and Paralympics is an incredibly difficult and competitive process – the US has bid 25 times in the last 70 years and only won a competitive bid race once. But the LA bid demonstrated its excellence throughout and earned the right to welcome the Olympic and Paralympic movements back to the United States for the first time in a generation."
Chicago 2016 Chairman and CEO Patrick Ryan said: “Congratulations to our friends in Los Angeles. Bidding demands constant global travel, fundraising, and lots and lots of work. But it's well worth it to represent your country in hopes of bringing the Games back, because the U.S. loves the Olympics and Paralympics, and significantly benefits from hosting the world’s greatest event.”
Salt Lake 2002 Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games CEO Mitt Romney said: “Los Angeles is one of the world’s greatest Olympic cities, and is truly deserving of the incredible honor of hosting the Games for a third time. I could not be happier for the city of Los Angeles and the entire U.S. Olympic and Paralympic family, and I look forward to an outstanding Games in 2028.”
Atlanta 1996 Committee for the Olympic Games President/CEO Billy Payne said: “Hosting the Games on home soil creates unparalleled opportunities for communities to come together in celebration of excellence, friendship and respect. It also drives participation and interest in sport, creating a lifelong legacy for every spectator, volunteer and athlete. Congrats to Los Angeles – and thank you for keeping the Olympic and Paralympic dream alive in the United States.”
