LAUSANNE,November 8, 2017 - The best broadcast coverage of the Olympic Games Rio 2016was celebrated on Tuesday evening in Lausanne as the IOC announced the winnersof the prestigious Golden Rings Awards.
Awards were presented across sixcategories: Best Olympic Sports Production; Best Olympic Feature; Best AthleteProfile; Best On-Air Promotion; Best Olympic Digital Service; and Best OlympicProgramme.
The winners of the night were Brazil’s SporTV– part of host broadcaster of Rio 2016 Globo Group - who picked up the award for Best OlympicProgramme and a host of other recognitions while NBC of the United States wenthome with three Golden Rings for Best Olympic Feature, Best Olympic Profile andBest Olympic Digital Service.
The BBC picked up the award for the The Best On-Air Promotion for aunique build up to its Rio 2016 coverage that included Brazil’s diverse wildlifecompeting in Olympic disciplines.
AIPS President Gianni Merlo was a membersof the international Golden Rings jury that was headed by IOC Member Anant Singh, a leading professional in the film and media industries, and amember of the IOC's Olympic Channel Commission.
IOC President Thomas Bach, who presentedthe award for "The Best Olympic Programme", said: "Half theworld's population followed the Olympic Games Rio 2016, and there was moretelevision and more digital coverage than ever before. This clearlydemonstrates the continuing global appeal of the Olympic Games. Thanks to thebroadcasters that we are honouring tonight with the Golden Rings Awards, theiconic Olympic moments and the athletes' achievements will live on forever inour collective memory."
