AIPS Europe President Charles Camenzuli visits Moldova and celebrates 25th anniversary of APSM

CHISINAU, December 19, 2018 - On December 17-18 AIPS Europe President Charles Camenzuli undertook his first official visit to the Republic of Moldova.
The official program began on December 17, with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Moldovan Sports Press Association, which coincided with the end-of-the-year Best Athletes Gala. On the next day after the celebrations, AIPS Europe President had a very intense day with lots of meetings and discussions.
The official program began with an early morning visit to the Moldovan Football Federation, which is the leading sports federation of the country. Together with Dragos Hincu, Vice-President responsible for National teams, Charles Camenzuli discussed the possibility of organization of a seminar for young journalists and journalism students of the State University at the National Teams’ Technical Center in Vadul lui Voda. The Center has all the facilities required for organization of such events, the venue regularly hosted seminars for coaches, judges and other sports officials, some of which were organized under aegis of UEFA and FIFA.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Hincu awarded Charles Camenzuli with a personalized National Team shirt. At the Moldovan Government, Mr. Camenzuli took part in a meeting with Radu Rebeja, Secretary of State Responsible for Physical Culture and Sport. Both of the parties agreed that the press plays a very important role in the promotion of sport and active lifestyle and the coverage of the sport activity and the achievements of the country's athletes.
AIPS Vice-President informed Radu Rebeja about the relationships between the sports press and the State authorities in other countries, especially countries of the former Eastern Bloc. He also highlighted the importance of supporting the press, especially in difficult economic conditions. Radu Rebeja assured that the State will continue to support the national sports press and expressed interest in organizing the above-mentioned sports media seminar, together with the Football Federation. The Secretary of State is a former football player and former captain of the national team.
Later, AIPS Europe President also met with the representatives of the National Olympic and Sports Committee - 1st Vice-President Nicolae Piatac and General Secretary Cristina Vasilianov. The parties discussed the promotion of sport and Olympic values as well as the accreditation process and problems with covering of the upcoming 2nd European Games in Minsk and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. NOSC expressed interest in organization of seminars for journalists from Moldovan regions, especially with participation of experienced lectors and journalists recommended by AIPS. The educational seminars could be organized by under the format of the Olympic Lessons, an already-existing educational program.
At lunch Mr. Camenzuli met with the members of APSM Executive board. During the meeting, AIPS Europe Vice-President discussed the existing local problems within the domain of sports media and the upcoming AIPS Congress in Lausanne. He also awarded APSM President Eduard Ciobanu and Serghei Donets, responsible for APSM international relations, with commemorative plaques from AIPS Europe.
The official program concluded with the visit to the National Physical Education and Sports University (USEFS). The institution currently has 5 departments with several different specialties, and 3700 students from Moldova and abroad. Professor Veaceslav Manolachi, rector of USEFS, and Charles Camenzuli discussed the latest developments in sports education and research. USEFS has an excellent relationship with the Moldovan sports press and often hosts sports competitions.
APSM's traditional Olympic Sports Competition amongst sports journalists are traditionally held at the grounds of the university. The university offered to help with the organization of AIPS Europe seminar and proposed to use its facilities and specialists. Later on the same evening, APSM organized a visit to the Cricova Wine Cellars, which are one of the largest in the world. They are considered a national heritage site and are traditionally visited by all official delegations coming to Moldova.
