AMPS celebrates 9th edition of Moroccan Sports Journalists’ Festival

RABAT, April 24, 2019 - The Moroccan Association of Sports Press (AMPS), on Tuesday April 23, 2019, organized the 9th Moroccan Sports Journalists’ Festival at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat, under the theme 'Sports Press: A constructive partnership'. The highlight of the event comprised of a tribute to several figures of the sports press, as well as legends of national sports.
Sports journalists During the ceremony, which was attended by the Vice President of the Moroccan Olympic Committee Kamal Lahlou and the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Mustapha Berraf, the following sports journalists were duly recognized; Hakim Tamim. of Mediterranean International Radio, Mohamed Sibari of Al-Alam, Abderrazak Alabdalaoui of Radio Mars, Ghizlane Soulami of Arryadia, Noureddine Regragui of 7 TV and journalist photographer Mustapha Annaimi of Al Ittihad Al ichtirraki.
In order to encourage young sports journalists, the Association also presented trophies to Saida Alaoui of Radio Plus and Khalid Azdoun of SNRT (Al Oula TV).
Recognition of former stars The AMPS also awarded trophies of recognition to former athletics star, Fatima Fakir, the first Moroccan sportswoman who took part in the Olympic Games (Munich 1972) and former KAC Kenitra defender, Boujemaa Benkhrif, who played for the national team that competed in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico and the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Best athletes of 2018 Taekwondo champion Fatima Zahra Abou Fares, who won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, was crowned the Best Sportswoman of the Year 2018, while Ajax Amsterdam’s Hakim Ziyech retained the prize in the men’s category following the survey of the national radio sports service organized in partnership with the AMPS, and with the participation of all the national media.
Football club, Raja Casablanca were also honoured for winning the African Confederation Cup and Super Cup, while Mohamed Berrada, former CEO of the Arab-African Distribution, Publishing and Press Corporation (SAPRESS), was also celebrated.
Devotion Speaking at the ceremony, which was punctuated by artistic performances, the president of the AMPS, Badreddine Idrissi indicated that the Association aims to through this kind of event promote the culture of recognition and encouragement in the world of sports and media.
“This is an initiative to pay tribute to journalists who have devoted years of their lives to the service of journalism and to preserve the noble values of sports,” he said.
