“We are delighted with this continuing tradition. It is an opportunity to gather people who really care of Lithuanian sports. As journalists, we are trying our best to make sportsmen visible, and they, in turn, breathe life into our profession through their performances, giving us material to spread.” Speaking of the awards, the tradition remains: five nominations go to sportsmen, organizers of sports events and coaches. Other five elect the most successful sports journalists of this year”, said Tautvydas Vencevičius, president of LSŽF.
For the 15th time in a row, prizes in remembrance of distinguished journalists Roma Grinbergienė and Aleksandas Krukauskas were awarded. Grinbergienė‘s prize for the best journalistic work was awarded to Mantas Stankevičius, reporter for Sportas.lt news portal.
“I use to take as golden rule the principle that athletes are humans in the first place, and therefore I treat interviews as genuine talk. I do not even use the word interview, I rather say conversation”, said Mr. Stankevičius accepting the prize.
The prize for the lifetime achievement of the late president of LSŽF Mr. Krukauskas was awarded to Vladas Janiūnas, legendary sports commentator.
LSŽF also handed awards for the best publication, promotion of sports ideas and the best young (up to 30 years old) journalist. A special award was also given for the best photo of the year.
Representatives of sports had their share, too. The “Best Interviewee” award went to Danas Rapšys, world-famous swimmer. The “Best Quote” award was handed to the former coach of Lithuanian national basketball team, Dainius Adomaitis, for his outburst after the World Cup game against France.
