Kazakhstan’s world silver medalist in figure skating features in world’s biggest online Olympic workout

Elizabet Tursynbayeva

NUR SULTAN, July 17, 2020 - Silver medalist of the 2019 World Figure Skating Championships Elizabet Tursynbayeva joined the world’s largest 24-hour digital Olympic workout on June 23.
To commemorate Olympic Day, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) brought together Olympians, athletes and fans to participate in the global online project.
A total of 23 Olympic athletes joined in the recording of an official Olympic Day workout video, and on Olympic Day, athletes from all over the world led live workouts at 11 a.m. local time across 20 time zones on @Olympics Instagram account. Thus, the marathon will be broadcast throughout the International Olympic Day.
Elizabeth was on the air at 11:00 Nur-Sultan time. The athlete literally held a joint training session for the whole world, becoming part of a historic event and a large-scale celebration of Olympic day.
“First of all, I would like to thank the IOC for its trust and opportunity to be part of a global event that is supported by athletes around the world. I was very happy to represent Kazakhstan in a unique project and to have a special training session.
“The most important thing is that this project showed that sport continues to unite us in spite of everything. This is one of the main values of sport, our Olympic movement, which these days especially supports all of us - athletes and fans.
“I would also like to thank our NOC for the unusual online programme that was held all week in honour of the Olympic Day and allowed us all to be together these days. Let each of you have only victories in life,” said Tursynbayeva.
The world’s largest 24-hour digital Olympic workout was part of the IOC’s #StayStrong campaign. “Celebrating Olympic Day may feel very different from all previous years, but at the same time, on this Olympic Day, our message of the power of sport to bring hope and optimism to everyone resonates even stronger,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “Let us join together to use this power of sport to prepare the postponed Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 as a moment of solidarity and resilience of humankind,” said IOC president Thomas Bach.
Kazakhstan is celebrating the event for the 27th time already.
