LAUSANNE, August 4, 2020 - In an international poll conducted by AIPS, journalists from 60 countries have voted Manchester United as most likely candidates to win the Europa League that resumes this week, with Inter coming as second favourites.
A total of 117 journalists from the five continents participated in the poll. Manchester United amassed a convincing 50 votes, 42.73% of the preferences, relegating Inter to the second place with 37 votes (31.62%).
Therefore, almost 3 out of 4 participants believed that the Red Devils and the Nerazzurri will be in the final, a scenario that it is likely based on the current draw.
Spanish side Sevilla (9.40%) completed the podium of votes, while Wolves (5.13%), Bayer Leverkusen (4.27%) and Roma (3.42%) came behind.
The Europa League will resume this week with eight matches in six different countries.
On Wednesday 5 August, there will be the first four: Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Wolfsburg (2-1); Copenhagen vs Istanbul Başakşehir (0-1); Manchester United vs LASK (5-0); Inter-Getafe (no 1st leg, knockout game). Then, on Thursday 6 August: Bayer Leverkusen vs Rangers (3-1); Sevilla-Roma (no 1st leg, knockout game); Basel vs Eintracht Frankfurt (3-0); Wolves vs Olympiacos (1-1).
The 8 teams that go through the next round will meet in a final tournament to be played in 4 venues in Germany, behind closed doors. The quarter-finals are set for 10 and 11 August; the semis will be played on 16 and 17 August. The final, in Cologne, will take place on 21 August.
The AIPS poll suggests the tournament will go to the Red Devils, as it happened in 2017.
