Kazakhstan develops additional measures to protect athletes

NUR-SULTAN, August 6, 2020 - The Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan held a joint online meeting, where they considered the current agenda in connection with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both entities have begun to develop a joint package of additional measures to protect the health of national athletes.
As a result of the meeting, a joint working group was formed to develop and implement a set of measures aimed at high-quality medical care for Kazakh athletes, ensuring safe training process in the second wave of the pandemic and other measures aimed at protecting the health of athletes.
“President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev outlined the need for urgent, tough and comprehensive decisions that should radically change the situation with COVID-19 in our country for the better. Therefore, today our organizations have a very important task, which is the urgent development and implementation of a set of measures aimed at ensuring training process and high-quality medical care for athletes in the context of the second wave of the pandemic. We need to direct all our efforts to solving this problem,” said Vice Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Saken Mussaibekov.
In turn, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan Andrei Kryukov emphasized that the safety of athletes is the main priority of the National Olympic Committee. “Today we are in an emergency. Therefore, operational tasks require the introduction of new approaches, mobilization of additional resources, and adoption of new measures in addition to those already taken earlier. In a rapidly changing epidemiological situation, it is necessary to provide everything necessary to ensure this task, to use and effectively redistribute the existing resources of our organizations. A set of new joint measures will include pharmacological support, medical care and diagnostics, new regulations on the resumption of training sessions for athletes,” he said.
This March the National Olympic Committee, together with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, created a control center to organize and monitor training process in the pandemic.
