

VILNIUS, October 31, 2020 - The Government of the Republic of Lithuania has decided to restrict the number of spectators in arenas and stadiums in the country due to the second wave of COVID-19. Everyday 700-900 new cases of the virus are recorded in Lithuania which has almost three million population.
At most, 300 people at indoor and 400 people at outdoor stadiums are allowed to attend sports events from October 30. Attendance of sports media is not restricted. Last week, 5,000 spectators were present at the Euroleague basketball game in Kaunas and 4,300 people were present at the Lithuanian Basketball League game between Rytas Vilnius and Žalgiris Kaunas.
The virus has spread to Sūduva Marijampolė football club with 19 people infected and the final game of Sūduva and Žalgiris Vilnius that was supposed to be played on October 31 was postponed to November 12 or 22. COVID-19 cases were recorded in three Lithuanian basketball clubs, as well.
Self-employed persons in Lithuania received monthly grant of 257 euros during quarantine
October 14, 2020 - Since the end of September about 100-130 new coronavirus cases have been detected every day. In total, more than 6200 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic, 3300 cases are still active.
Sports competitions are not prohibited. Some big events were held in August and September in Lithuania: UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifying matches, Velomarathon Vilnius, UEFA Nations League match, Euroleague Basketball Preseason Tournament, FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 1 Star Tournament, Water Formula 2 World Championship I Stage, International youth wrestling tournament Vilnius Open, Vilnius Marathon.
Self-employed persons (also freelance sports journalists) in Lithuania have received a monthly grant of 257 euros from the government during quarantine (March 16 - June 16) and two months after that period.
