Eighteen sports journalists participate in virtual chess tournament in Azerbaijan

BAKU, May 6, 2021 - The first virtual chess tournament among sports journalists in the history of sports journalism in Azerbaijan came to an end in Baku on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Eighteen sports journalists - salaried employees as well as freelancers - took part in seven rounds of the tournament organised by the Azerbaijan Sports Journalists Association (AIJA) and sponsored by eTopaz.

Popular sports media organizations participated in the competition. Aysel Adigozalli, a reporter for www.goal.az took first place, Sabuhi Safiyarli, an independent sports commentator came second and Samira Allahverdiyeva, sister of the late grandmaster Vugar Hashimov, a freelancer and AIJA member, finished in third place.
The top three received their prizes - 500 AZN, 300 AZN and 200 AZN respectively - at a special ceremony held on May 4 at the head office of AIJA in the Azerbaijan publishing house.
