

MADRID, May 12, 2021 - Julián Redondo Pérez will continue as President of the Spanish Sports Press Association (AEPD) until 2025, after receiving the majority support of 33 Provincial Associations by the deadline of Tuesday May 4, without receiving any impugnation or challenge to his candidacy in the General Secretariat of the AEPD.
Julián Redondo took over the presidency of the AEPD for the first time on March 5, 2013 at the National Congress of the Sports Press held in Murcia, after the Gala held at the Teatro Romea, until when, Mari Carmen Izquierdo was the President. Julián Redondo renewed his mandate for four more years on February 27, 2017 and was ratified at the National Congress held in Valladolid, after a spectacular Gala held at the Teatro Calderón in the capital of Pucela.
The electoral process has got an important variation on this occasion, since due to the coronavirus, the National Gala and the Congress that should have been held in the city of Teruel on March 16 and 17, 2020 had to be suspended and later the postponed of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that could not be held in Tokyo in July and August. The Pandemic and the State of Alarm changed the steps of all the Provincial Associations of the Sports Press and also of the AEPD.
After recovering the normality in our country, the electoral periods of all the Associations and the AEPD were opened in March of this year. Julián Redondo, presented his candidacy and was supported by 33 of the 36 Provincial Associations. From this moment on, he will fulfil his third term.
Julián Redondo Pérez is from this moment President-elect of the AEPD. Until he appoints his new government team, the normal activity of the current Board will continue until September 21, the date on which the XL National Congress of the Sports Press will be held, scheduled in the city of Teruel, where also, the Gala of the National Sports of the AEPD will be held on the 20th of that same month.
Julián Redondo's professional experience is extensive. He started in 1976, while still at the Madrid School of Journalism, when he joined the newspaper Ya. Until today, he has been on practically all the Radio stations in our country, on the newspapers El Sol and La Razón and on many television programs, and today he continues to do on Televisión Española (Teledeporte) at Estudio Estadio and writing as a columnist in El Mundo Deportivo of Barcelona. He has a great journalistic style and has written several books, including “A Golpe de Pedal”, where he reflects a part of the life of Perico Delgado, “Nací luchando - Amaya Valdemoro” and the last one, in the middle of a Pandemic and which is having a great acceptance, "Crónica de una putada colosal".
He has reported on all kinds of sports and has covered the Olympic Games, World Championships, Europe and major cycling events, such as Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España, etc, etc.
Among the many awards he has received throughout his career, he has in his possession the bronze medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit of the Higher Sports Council.
