Plan for Khartoum Stadium

KHARTOUM, August 19, 2021 - Professor Kamal Shaddad, president of the Sudanese Football Association, said there is a group of young volunteer engineers who took the Khartoum Stadium issue seriously and formed a working group that was able to find the architectural design for the Khartoum Stadium, which has been missing for many years, after a long search, and then they conducted engineering studies to restructure Khartoum Stadium in proportion to its historical and geographical location in the heart of the capital.
The president of the federation added: “We are keen to push forward the process of restructuring Khartoum Stadium to be one of the distinguished stadiums in Africa. We asked General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, to be a partner with us in this matter, and the request was extended to the President of the Qatar Federation, who promised to consider Qatar’s contribution in the regard.
“We contacted the President of the International Football Association, who cared a lot about Khartoum Stadium and its historical position in the global and African football map, and promised to have his contribution to the file. We also contacted many others in order to succeed in transforming the stadium to an international stadium according to requirements.
"Before Dr. Hassan Borgo, Chairman of the National Teams Committee and a member of the Board of Directors travelled to the Emirates, he asked us for a mandate to discuss with the brothers in the Emirates Football Association what the President of the Emirates Football Association, His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, told me, when I accepted his invitation to attend the President’s Cup final, that he had directives in cooperation with the Sudanese Federation and to support it to the utmost."
Professor Shaddad continued: “When I returned to Sudan, we received a letter from the UAE Federation proposing that they host the first Sudanese team in a preparatory camp, and we apologized at that time because the team was preparing in Tunisia, but due to the outbreak of corona and the turmoil ocaused by political events, the preparation plan was modified.
When Dr. Hassan Borgo travelled to the Emirates to arrange for the preparatory camp after we agreed to the invitation, we asked him to include the Khartoum Stadium file among the demands he submitted to the Emirates Federation. The big deal in rehabilitating and restructuring Khartoum Stadium in accordance with international standards and that after the Sudanese national team concluded the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, they will send an engineering team from the Emirates accompanied by a high-level representation from the Emirates Football Association to assess the current situation, develop a plan of action and immediately start implementation in order to make Khartoum Stadium an international stadium that meets all international conditions.”

Kamal Shaddad sent his thanks to the UAE government and people for the real desire to provide what serves the development of football in Sudan, through cooperation between the Sudanese and Emirati federations and hosting the camp of the first Sudanese team and providing all the necessary aid through the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy of The Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, President of the Emirates Football Association, the great welcome and affirmation of their participation in the rehabilitation of Khartoum Stadium, which is considered one of the historical monuments of football in the world.
