International Forum “Russia - Country of Sports” opens on September 8 in Kazan

KAZAN, September 7, 2021 - From September 8 to 10, the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre will host an international sports forum “Russia - Country of Sports”. More than two thousand participants from around the world are expected and ambitious measures are in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Entry to the global event will only be allowed to those with new negative PCR test results. And this is also compulsory for those who have already been vaccinated against the virus. In order to prevent a large concentration of people in one room, the organizers chose a huge exhibition complex, Kazan Expo, which has many modern pavilions and state-of-the-art conference facilities. The complex is located outside the city, close to the airport and therefore two additional trains have been launched in this direction.
The programme will feature practical classes and master classes from the leaders of the sports industry and the topics for discussion include the development of fitness, digitalization of mass and professional sports in Russia, the development of physical activity in the countryside, and much more. The forum offers 12 thematic tracks.
Many VIP guests are expected. They include; the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin as well as the sports ministers of Belarus, Qatar, Egypt and Montenegro.
The Forum will also be attended by the presidents of FINA, Hussein Al-Musallam; the International Handball Federation (IHF), Hassan Mustafa; International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) René Fasel and others.
Despite the fact that the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Kazan have been postponed from 2022 to January 2023 due to the pandemic, President of Special Olympics Russia Olga Slutsker will speak to participants of the forum on the importance of an inclusive environment in society. Additionally, athletes who have won medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be guests of the forum.
Participants are promised an extensive sports programme outside the forum. For example, it will be possible to watch the race of the sports ministers on the Kazan embankment or attend the 2022 World Cup qualification match of between the national teams of Belarus and Belgium.
The State Sports Museum for the first time will present a unique project “Museum on Wheels”. The sports park will spread over an area of 10,000 square metres. Here one can visit interactive playgrounds, enroll children in sports schools and sections, experience interesting sports attractions and participate in competitions.
There will also be many master classes, autograph sessions by famous athletes. The participation of the president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and famous goalkeeper Vladislav Tretiak has been confirmed, alongside popular football coach Leonid Slutsky, Turin Olympic Games champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova, and the Olympic champions from Tokyo 2020.
A real surprise awaits esports fans. For guests of the sports park, 12 play areas are equipped, as well as a stand with the most relevant eSports trends.
