KHARTOUM, January 3, 2021 - Sudan's Al Hilal player, Malawian Gerald Ferry, announced his retirement from international football today, Saturday, after the coach's decision to exclude him from the team's squad for the African Nations Cup 2022, which will start on the 9th of this January in Cameroon. Al Hilal contracted with Ferry about two months ago, and fought with him on their squad for two weeks in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, before leaving last week for Saudi Arabia, joining a preparatory camp for the Malawi national team. Paul Mitchell, Ferry's business manager, told Malawi News, today, Saturday: "The player retired from international football; after he was frustrated by the decision of Malawi coach, Marian Mario, to exclude him from the final list to participate in the Cameroon finals."
He added, "The player discussed with me and his family yesterday, Friday, and took the decision to return to his Sudanese team, Al Hilal, as soon as possible, to prepare for the African Champions League."He continued, "It is a decision that came because of the situation he is living in, and we feel that it is the most correct."
Ferry had started his international participation with Malawi in the Cosafa championship "South African countries" in 2015, and played a pivotal role in Malawi's qualification for the first time in its history for the African Nations Cup finals, scoring two goals in the qualifiers and placing him as the team's top scorer.
