ULAANBAATAR, March 16, 2022 – The Mongolian Sports Press Union (MSPU) sent its biggest press team yet for the Winter Olympics to the Beijing 2022 Games. In spite of the challenges surrounding the event, the MSPU had two journalists and two photographers working on site.
It took two hours to fly to Beijing from Ulaanbaatar. Our members were prepared and fully vaccinated - each of them got four doses of vaccine. Some way it is sounds crazy.
Besides, at the time there was almost no flight option to Beijing due to China’s COVID-19 countermeasures. Finally, just seven days before the Winter Olympics, a charter flight was confirmed, and our journalists bought one of the most expensive flight tickets in their lives. The ticket was 10 times more expensive than a regular flight, and the plane was empty. Inside the 100 people capacity plane, there were only two athletes, four team staff, two television journalists and our four journalists. After overcoming so many bizarre situations, our journalists successfully reached Beijing.
The organisation for the Games was the best. China successfully prepared and managed the closed-loop system. There is no complaint about the media facilities and volunteers. The one thing that did not work well was transportation. Many venues are so close to each other and within walking distance but the organisers planned that we have to wait for and only take buses, which takes a lot of time.
Otherwise, Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games were amazingly organised.
