Two-time Olympic Champion sprint kayaker Zsolt Gyulay is the new President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee

BUDAPEST, February 1, 2022 - Two-time Olympic Champion sprint kayaker Mr. Zsolt Gyulay has been elected President by the General Assembly of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, following the resignation of previous President Mr. Krisztián Kulcsár, whose increasingly unpopular presidential activities that led to real distrust within the General Assembly were unveiled by Hungarian investigative journalists’ work, as we have written about it earlier.
The Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC) held a General Assembly for the election of President on 29 January. Two candidates, Dr. Balázs Hajdu and Mr. Zsolt Gyulay, submitted their candidature to become the 17th President of the Hungarian National Olympic Committee.
Multiple Olympian and attorney Dr. Balázs Hajdu is a Member delegated by the Hungarian Sailing Federation, while two-time Olympic Champion, F1 facility Hungaroring Sport Ltd. President Zsolt Gyulay is a Member delegated by the Hungarian Canoe Federation. In accordance with the Statutes, only Members of the organization can run for President.
48 Members eligible to vote attended the General Assembly on last Saturday.
Zsolt Gyulay received 34 votes, while 14 Members cast their ballots for Dr. Balázs Hajdu, thus Zsolt Gyulay was chosen as the successor of Krisztián Kulcsár.
Mr. Gyulay highlighted he will work on creating a well-functioning HOC, while concentrating on the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games where the Hungarian delegation has high hopes for winning medals in short track speed skating.
