Partner For Life: Joel Boutroue, the UNHCR Representative in Uganda, has hardly turned down an request from Ritah Aliguma's Aliguma Foundation since his arrival in 2018.

From sponsoring soccer tournaments to providing Mama Kits, UNHCR have continued to generously dig deep in their coffers to ensure the Foundation’s projects don’t stall as both entities continue to make a positive impact on the lives of the underprivileged people in the communities they traverse.

With the economy having a semblance of normalcy, activities in the community-based societies across the country from the pioneer project in Acholi Quarters to Soroti and the far west in Kinuma village in Masindi, the desire for equipment has increased for varying reasons.

Testimony Of Good Works: The Acholi Quarters has evolved from a rocky surface to a lush green playground that will certainly birth many talents across several sports disciplines.

Rising to the occasion

UNHCR have risen to the occasion’s need by providing the Foundation with 20 axes, 10 wheelbarrows, 20 spades, 20 saws, 20 slashers, 10 metallic buckets, two big nylon ropes, two sisal ropes for farming purposes as well as 1,000 knickers and 4,000 packets of sanitary pads.

Aliguma Foundation officials; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ritah Aliguma and Operations and Logistics Manager Ivan Tugume received the equipment and health kits from UNHCR at the UN Agency’s warehouse office in Kampala located at Stretcher Ntinda in Nakawa Division.

“We are grateful,” said CEO Ritah Aliguma while paying special tribute to Joel Boutroue, the UNHCR Representative in Uganda, who has hardly turned down any request from Aliguma Foundation since his arrival in the Pearl of Africa in 2018.

“This comes in handy. We have been busy since the turn of the year and this equipment and health kits will go a long way in improving the livelihoods of our people. The equipment will be used by the casual labourers that are working to maintain the Acholi Quarters playground and those at the AFSEC (Aliguma Foundation Sports and Empowerment Centre) in Masindi."

Beneficial to all

“For the health kits, we will continue to distribute them to the schools and the vulnerable communities we have worked with before as we identify a couple of others that will duly benefit from our partners' kind gestures,” chipped in Tugume.

The Aliguma Foundation is also hoping that some of the tools will be made available to the enterprise women who do works like stone quarrying and forthwith not only improve their livelihoods but also work towards the maintenance of general hygiene in the communities.
