LAUSANNE, August 1, 2022 - The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and European Athletics are pleased to announce that they will honour journalists and photographers, who have covered 10 or more European Athletics Championships at Munich 2022, at a special ceremony to be held at place and time to be decided.
Please send your details including name, nationality, number of European Athletics Championships covered, media organization, date of birth and a Jpeg photo of yourself to this email: presidentoffice@aipsmedia.com by August, 13. Put “Journalists on the Podium + your name” in the object of the email.
Journalists on the Podium is a unique tradition of celebrating longevity in sports journalism. It was born in August 2012 and Honav’s replica of the 2012 London Olympic torch was presented to more than 100 veteran journalists, each of whom had covered 10 Olympic Games or more.
“Many times, we don’t think enough about how the story, pictures, and news are passed on. It is great to be here to honour the journalists, many of whom have become friends with the athletes,” said Edwin Moses – an American hurdler who dominated the 400-metre hurdles event for a decade, winning gold medals in the race at the 1976 and 1984 Olympic Games - on the first ceremony.
Since the first ceremony held in London for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, AIPS has continued this tradition in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, 2015 Toronto Pan American Games, 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games, 2017 London World Athletics, 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games, 2018 Glasgow European Championships, 2018 European Athletics Championships, 2019 Giro d’ Italia, 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and 2022 FINA World Championships Budapest.
