‘Sultans of the Net’ claim Women’s Volleyball gold in Konya 2021
KONYA, August 15, 2022 – The Turkish Women's Volleyball national team B beats their contenders Iran winning 3-0 tonight in Karatay Congress and Sports Hall, the team had the arena full house of fans coming to cheer their home team playing in the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya 2021, meanwhile, Iran took silver and Azerbaijan took bronze.
Women’s Volleyball is quite a popular game in Turkey, even more than Men’s volleyball for their success at domestic and international levels making them darlings in their home country.
POST GAME HYPE Player number 2, Turkish outside hitter Ilkin Aydin said: “Firstly, I would like to greet everyone from Konya, we became champions with great play and great atmospheres, we are so happy and proud, we worked hard for this, it is not only our hard work but also the people who left their lives on pause for us, that’s why the achievement is not only ours but for all of Turkey”.
Turkish team captain and libero Buse Kayacan commented after the game: “It was a very tough and long summer for us, but we never gave up, we worked very hard and in the end we reached the final and won it, I am so happy and proud of my team I hope it will go exactly like this for the Turkish national team A”
Buse added on her experience with Team Iran: “They played very well, it was hard to receive their attacks but we did everything in a good way, after the reception we attacked very hard as well, thanks to our defend and block system, we are happy to win in front of all our supporters, and congratulations to Team Iran as well”
Turkey won the sets 25-16, 25-14 and 25-15 claiming ownership of the gold medal.
