Qatar 2022’s Lusail stadium inauguration sets attendance record of over 77,000 fans


DOHA, September 11, 2022 - Lusail, the largest stadium of the World Cup FIFA Qatar 2022, has set a new record, with more than 77,000 fans attending the inauguration match (of Lusail Super Cup) pitting the Saudi Al Hilal FC and Egyptian Zamalek SC where the Al Hilal won with penalty kicks.
About ten weeks prior to the launch of the highly anticipated FIFA Men's World Cup 2022 in Doha, Qatar next November, thousands of fans flooded, from inside and outside Qatar, into Lusail Stadium which will host the Qatar 2022's match on 18 December which happens to be on Qatar national day.
QATAR 2022 TEST MATCH Al Hilal-Zamalek match was preceded by a great concert for the Egyptian singer, Amr Diab, with whom the audience reacted. The match's break time saw the Arabic version of the Qatar tournament official anthem 'Hayya Hayya', sung by Nasser al-Kobaisi, Aidh and Haneen Hussein.
The Saudi Hilal FC has won the Lusail Supper Cup, after overtaking Al Zamalek SC with penalty kicks (4-1).
Lusail Stadium will host ten matches throughout the competition; the first is Argentina against Saudi Arabia on 22 November and the last is the final match on 18 December.
The Stadium's design and construction works saw adherence to many sustainability practices, said the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the authority in charge of organizing the World Cup 2022.
UNIQUE DESIGN AND STRUCTURE Among these practices is the rooftop, which was made of an advanced material preventing wind and dust, lets in enough sunlight for the grass to grow, and provides for shadow sufficient to minimize dependence on air conditioning inside the stadium.
In compliance with sustainability standards, Lusail Stadium gained two GISAS (Global International Sustainability Assessment System) certificates; a five-star certificate for design and building, and superiority for construction works.
Lusail Stadium's unique design, in terms of light-shadow corresponding, was inspired by the Arab lighthouse or lantern. With their accurate details, the stadium's structure and façade reflect meal dishes, traditional tools and other artistic pieces spread across the Arab and Islamic World.
Qatar FIFA competition will start on 20 November, with Qatar-Ecuador match, and will conclude on 18 December.
