CAF interclub competitions: Nigeria’s representatives start on high note

LAGOS, September 15, 2022 - Nigeria's Representatives kicked start the 2022/2023 CAF Inter Club Competitions on high note with the home team recording big wins while away teams Secure a draw.
Nigeria Flag bearers in the CAF champions League Rivers United won their first leg encounter with a scintillating 3-0 win over visiting Liberian side Watanga while Plateau United FC secured a vital 2-2 draw in Gabon against Stade Mandji FC.
In the CAF Confederation cup, Kwara United defeated AS Douanes of Niger Republic 3-0 in Lagos while Remo Stars got a vital point in far away Morocco with ASFAR pulling a 1-1 draw.
Rivers, Kwara United Thrash Opponents in Nigeria
The Nigeria Professional Football League Champions, Rivers United scored Three goals in the first 45 minutes at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium to record a victory over Watanga FC in the CAF Champions League preliminary round 1st leg.
Two Early goals from Kenechukwu Agu and Ebube Duru in the first ten minutes gave the Pride of Rivers the lead and Paul Acquah header sealed the victory for the Nigerian side.
Rivers will be traveling to Monrovia in Liberia for the Second leg to seek to seal the qualification to the next round on Sunday September 18.
In Lagos, Wasiu Jimoh's brace and Paul Samson 5th minutes goal was enough for kwara United to defeat AS Douanes 3-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The Harmony Boys will travel to Général Seyni Kountché Stadion on September 18 for the reverse leg.
Remo Stars, Plateau united Share Spoils on the Road
Remo Stars made her debut in CAF inter Club competition by sharing a Spoils against Moroccan side, AS FAR 1-1.
This was Remo Stars' maiden appearance on the continent, and the Moroccan club who finished in 3rd in the Botola last season welcomed them with a 27th-minute goal from Diney Borges.
Olamilekan Adebayo levelled early in the second half for Remo, who finished third in the NPFL last season.
Remo Stars will be hosting the side on sunday at their home ground at the Remo stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun state, the aggregate winner will face Anglogold Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea or Nouakchott Kings of Mauritania in a last-32 tie.
For Plateau United they started their campaign in the CAF champions League with a draw against Gabonese side AS Stade Mandji at the Stade du Franceville.
The Peace Boys held AS Stade Mandji to a 2 2 draw in the first leg of the first preliminary round, Nnerot Silas and Zulkifilu Mohammed goals ensured they draw in Gabon .
The return leg is on Sunday 18th September, at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
