PSAT names Antigoni Drisbiotis and Miltos Tentoglou Athletes of the Year in Greece

ATHENS, December 23, 2022 – The Panhellenic Sports Press Association (PSAT) on Tuesday (December 20) crowned the athletics duo of Antigoni Drisbiotis and Miltos Tedoglou as the Athletes of the Year 2022 in Greece.
The announcement was made during the association’s 69th annual “Celebration of the Best” held at the Athens Concert Hall. Members of the PSAT voted electronically for the top athletes of the year.
Race walker Antigoni Drisbiotis collected the most votes in the women’s category to win the prize ahead of Anna Korakaki (shooting) and Elina Tzengo (athletics). In August, she won two gold medals in four days at the European Athletics Championships - 35 km and 20 km race walk events. This was preceded by her 4th place finish in the 35km race walk event at the World Championships in Oregon. The 38-year-old was also among the ten nominees for the title of women's European Athlete of the Year awarded by the European Athletics Association.
Miltos Tentoglou took the men’s prize ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo (basketball) and Lefteris Petrounias (gymnastics). A year after winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the long jump, Tedoglou in 2022 confirmed his status as one of the top jumpers in the world. He became the world indoor champion jumping the current Greek indoor record of 8.55 metres, and took silver at the outdoor World Championships and retained his European long jump title with a new championship record at the European Championships. It is his most productive year in terms of medals in top events. In September, he made history after becoming the first Greek athlete to win a diamond in the Diamond League series of meetings and he was included in the final three for the title of European Athlete of 2022.
