Kuwaiti triathlete Yousef Al-Shatti breaks Guinness World Record in 21km costal swim

LAUSANNE, February 7, 2023 – Ironman triathlete Yousef Al-Shatti set a new world record for Kuwait, by achieving the fastest swim crossing Kuwait Sea Bay for Men’s category, Guinness World Records clocked his timing of 9 hours and 44 minutes after completing total swim distance of 21km in Kuwait bay, from Ras Al Sabiya to Kuwait Army Officers Club, thus breaking the previous world record of 12 hours.
The event was attended by representatives and official judges from Guinness World Records, where the official judge of the encyclopaedia, Raafat Tawfiq, presented a certificate of accomplishment to Al-Shatti, to record his global achievement in the name of Kuwait.
WHO IS YOUSEF? Yousef Al-Shatti, a 41 years old Marine staff colonel and engineer, an athlete who achieved many titles in international triathlon events as he clinched first place in the U.S. Navy SEAL Bonefrog Challenge 2016 overcoming barriers and endurance for 60km and among 8000 elite competitors, and he became the Spartan World Champion 2019 in his age group for the hurdles and endurance category.
He also became the first Kuwaiti, Gulf, and third Arab to climb the summit of Mount Ama Dapalm in the Himalayas, lifting the flag of Kuwait on the summit in 2019, he also achieved first place in the military category of the Iron Man Championship in 2022, held in the United States.
SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT Al-Shatti delivered a speech on this occasion, in which he dedicated the achievement to Kuwait, to HH Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, to HH Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad, and to his Kuwaiti family, extending his sincere thanks to the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense, Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid, for their generous support and encouragement to accomplish this global achievement being part of Kuwaiti Army Forces.
