KHARTOUM, April 20, 2023 - "Women Against War" a campaign launched by a group of Sudanese women led by female sport journalists located around the world, in light of the recent clashes in Sudan between Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. Until recently, they were allies. The pair worked together to topple ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in 2019 and played a pivotal role in the military coup in 2021.
NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY The statement of the campaign read "because we believe in our national responsibility, and the fact that women and children are the most affected by war and fighting, and because of our strong impact on maintaining our rights and our people to peace, safety, a decent life, and a free democratic homeland, we declare in a loud voice our rejection of the shameful war that kills the daughters and sons of our honorable country We condemn the parties seeking to continue it.
"We also stress the need to stop the fighting, destruction and violations against civilians.
HUNDREDS OF CIVILIANS KILLED Since the eruption of this military clash between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on Saturday, April 15, 2023, hundreds of civilians have been killed as a result of the continuous warfare, which impeded the treatment of the wounded, the disabled, and the sick from reaching hospitals, most of which were out of service due to the continuous fighting, which led to the terrible deterioration in the health services situation. As most of the hospitals were out of service.
WATER AND POWER OUTAGE In addition to the power and water outages in most neighbourhoods especially in the southern cities as a result of the damage to vital facilities, which increased the suffering of citizens in light of the closure of many bridges and main streets. The fighting that has been going on for four days has led to an increase in the number of civilians killed inside their homes and when they go out to make a living.
In light of this humanitarian catastrophe, we demand the following:
1- An immediate cease-fire without conditions.
2- The truce should allow the opening of safe passages to help the stranded, transfer the injured to hospitals, secure them, provide their needs, and secure medical personnel.
3- Securing the crews working to deal with water and electricity outages.
3- Allowing the bodies of the dead to be received and buried, whose presence in the streets will turn into a health disaster.
There is no victor in this war except the enemies of humanity: freedom, peace and justice. Experience has confirmed that the bearers of arms, when they disagree, settle their differences through fighting, as a result of which many civilians fall dead. Therefore, we have remained and will continue to call for the necessity of restoring the democratic civil transition and the civil state with one army with a national belief that ends the phenomenon of multiplicity of armies and whose duty is to protect the Sudanese without discrimination and protect the borders of the homeland And his constitution.
CALLING TO END WAR We call on all the Sudanese people and their civil forces to reject the war, demand an end to it, and activate their role to contribute to providing aid to everyone who needs it.. Sudan is everyone’s homeland, so we all bear the responsibility by carrying out our various roles.
We appeal to everyone.. the international community and its global institutions.. the women's community and its organizations..and the United Nations and its organizations..to stand with the people of Sudan and pressure to stop the war and provide relief to those affected.
