BERLIN, June 22, 2023 - Each Special Olympics athlete has a unique and powerful story. During the football match between Denmark and Germany. I have seen with my own eyes what people look like when their dreams come true. The girls from Denmark beat Germany 5-2 and reached the final. The happy girls ran to celebrate the victory with their fans and parents.
HIGHT FIVE TO ALL THE SUPPORTERS A fair-haired girl immediately catches my attention. After the final whistle, she keeps smiling. The girl approaches the fans and gives each of them a high five. Her name is Charlotte Pindstrup. The girl is 26 years old. And she has been playing football for more than 10 years, adores her country and has her favourite football player – the star of Denmark, Christian Eriksen. "My national team is my favourite, but, of course, I love also mine,” Charlotte tells me.
We all know how important it is to have support from loved ones in various matters. Charlotte is really lucky – she is motivated by her parents, her boyfriend, her coach and her team. This is her first World Games. "I am really happy to be here. This is such a huge event. I feel so many different emotions," says Charlotte after the game.
RESPECT For her, the Special Olympics is primarily not about sports and not about competition. The goalkeeper of the German national team started to cry after the defeat and all the girls from Denmark ran up to hug her and support her. It is not so important who won and who lost. Respect for the opponent is much more important. Charlotte admits that she has made many new friends here. She communicates with athletes from other countries. But he makes the most friends with people from New Zealand.
SPORT AND MUSIC Her nickname on Instagram is a creative girl from Denmark (@thecreativegirlfromdk). She talks about everything. Charlotte loves football, but her real calling is music. She listens to pop, Harry Styles and writes her songs. For her, music, like football, is another opportunity to prove herself.
Last year, while in the national team, Charlotte wrote one of her favourite songs now. "Vi er Denmark" is her vision of a national song. "This song somehow came to me by itself. I was inspired by being in the national team, I took a lot of notes and then it all came together in this song."
MULTITASKING GIRL Besides music and football, Charlotte also works a lot in a grocery store in Denmark. Just imagine her crazy schedule. The girl plays sports, does a lot of creative stuff, meets with friends and her boyfriend, and also works. A very gentle and at the same time very strong girl.
DREAM COME TRUE Participation in the Special Olympics is a dream come true for her. This is an unforgettable experience. "I'm cool. And you're cool too. Everyone has their own story. And every person in the world deserves to be heard. The Special Olympics is a grand event to show your uniqueness and importance to the world. That's why I'm here"
