LAUSANNE, July 7, 2023 - The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), the world governing body recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is delighted to announce a new partnership with Brick, a brand of the Groupe Abéo, to develop Parkour in the South-East Asia region.
As part of the new partnership, Brick becomes title sponsor of the Brick Parkour Asian Tour, which will be held in six countries across South-East Asia in August 2023. Brick will supply two sets of Parkour obstacles to the national gymnastics governing bodies in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Brick Brand Manager Mathieu Dumet expressed his ambitions for the Tour: “We’re delighted to join with the FIG for this groundbreaking new tour. One of the key ambitions of Brick is to inspire as many people as possible to get involved with Parkour and we feel this tour gives us the perfect platform to introduce a whole new audience to the sport.”
The Brick Parkour Asian Tour is a 20-day event that will bring together the Parkour communities in each country. Brick has been appointed both Title Sponsor and Official and Exclusive Equipment Supplier for the Brick Parkour Asian Tour. Children and budding athletes from across the region will therefore be able to attend workshops, demonstration events for the different Parkour disciplines (Skills, Speed and Freestyle) as well as some friendly competitions that will allow participants to put their skills to the test on Brick’s easy-to-use modular Parkour set-up.
FIG President Morinari Watanabe declared: “This new partnership with Brick represents a significant investment in the development of Parkour in South-East Asia. The Brick Parkour Asian Tour will allow us to support the Parkour communities across the region. It will also allow the next generation of young athletes to try out for themselves this up-and-coming urban sport with expert guidance from one of the sport’s co-founders, as well as from experienced FIG athletes.”
Thanks to support from sponsor AEON Mall, the Tour will be held at AEON shopping malls in the cities of Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Phnom Penh. The Brick Parkour Asian Tour will also stop at Centralworld Square in the heart of downtown Bangkok and at Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
A representative for AEON Mall said, “we, AEON are honoured to have the Brick Parkour Asian tour conducted by FIG and each national Gymnastics Federation in our malls. Lately Parkour as an urban sport has attracted followers all over the world. Through this tour event we believe we will create new fans of Parkour and attract the local community for new connections and communication. We look forward to watching this event together with the community and seeing professional athletes compete.“
The dates of the Brick Parkour Asian Tour are as follows:
12-13 August: AEON Mall, BSD City, Jakarta, Indonesia
15-16 August: AEON Mall Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
19-20 August: AEON Mall Mean Chey, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
22-23 August: CentralWorld, Bangkok, Thailand
26-27 August: AEON Mall Ha Dong, Hanoi, Vietnam
30-31 August: Quirino Grandstand, Manila, Philippines
Parkour co-founder and FIG Parkour Commission President Charles Perrière says: “I am excited about the Brick Parkour Asian Tour because this is the first event of its kind and it is fully in line with the Parkour philosophy of coming together and having fun, with competition taking a back seat. I look forward to showcasing this exciting sport to fans in the region and making new connections. I am hugely grateful to Brick and AEON Mall for their support and I’m convinced that the equipment that Brick is providing will show governing bodies in the region just how easy it is to set up and use a Parkour course.”
