PSAT organises workshop on “Athletes with Disabilities and the Role of the Media” to mark World Sports Journalists Day

ATHENS, July 13, 2023 - The Greek Sports Journalists Association (PSAT), celebrating the World Sports Journalists Day, organised a workshop on the topic of "Athletes with Disabilities and the Role of the Media" in the press room of the main Stadium of the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens on 6th July 2023.
NEW INITIATIVE It is a new initiative of PSAT, whose goal is, as the PSAT president, Yiannis Theodorakopoulos, pointed out, “to highlight the main aspects of life and the rights of persons with disabilities".
The president of PSAT also talked about the important role played by the media promoting the athletes with disabilities and emphasized the problems they face.
SIMILAR EVENTS Furthermore, he said that the Association will organise more similar events with the same content since PSAT is seeking a better and more complete coverage of the games of disabled athletes by the media.
RECOGNITION Journalists Giorgos Arkoulis and Nikos Phyrios were honored for their contribution to sports and society. PSAT also honored journalist with disabilities, Spyros Tsiamis for his actions over the past 25 years, related to accessibility.
A special and touching moment of the workshop was the award given to Giannis Papastephanakis, a young fan of PAOK with disabilities (football team of Thessaloniki), who sent a resounding message against violence during the Cup final between AEK and PAOK. Mr. Theodorakopoulos gave the award to Giannakis on behalf of all the country's sport journalists. Yannis revealed that he wants to become a sport journalist and once again sent a very strong message about the values of sports.

SPEAKERS The topics discussed during the workshop were presented by colleagues Aria Agatsa, Christos Sotirakopoulos, Vassilis Skoundis, Elvi Michaelidou and Thanos Sarris.
The Paralympic movement was represented by the president of the Association of Paralympians Grigoris Polychronidis, Paralympians Alexandra Stamatopoulou, Chrysi Morphis, Alexandros Taxildaris, a member of the Committee, the Director Sakis Costaris and the scientific advisor of Paralympic sports Vassilis Kalyvas.
Vice-president of PSAT Vangelis Ioannou and Giorgos Triantafyllidis, member of the board of the directors of PSAT, coordinated the event.
Many members of PSAT, prominent athletes with disabilities and political, sport and academic officials attended the workshop.
