ADDIS ABABA, July 22, 2023 - Former Ethiopian striker Salahdin Seid confirmed late on Friday that he has retired from professional football. The 37-year-old said on his social media account that he would no longer play professionally.
"I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for those who have been by my side in my football career." Said Salahdin.
Known as 'Sala', Salahdin began his career at Muger Cement and had successful stints with Saint George. Salahdin has won four domestic leagues and one top scorer of the year honour.
He moved to the North Africa giants in 2011, where he played for Premier League sides Wadi Degla (Egypt), Al Ahly (Egypt), and Mc Alger ( Algeria ), before coming back home to join Saint George.
Salahdin played indespensable role in helping his nation qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after 31 years under the guidance of coach Sewnet Bishaw, scoring the crucial goals in qualifying.
The Ethiopian great enjoyed his time during his stint at the national level as he amassed a total of 14 goals in 28 appearances.
