Asian Paralympic Committee to hold 7th General Assembly and Executive Board elections in Riyadh


RIYADH, August 29, 2023 - The Asian Paralympic Committee (AsPC) have announced that the 7th AsPC General Assembly (GA) will take place in Riyadh, KSA from 25 to 28 November 2023. Representatives from the 45 Asian National Paralympic Committees will gather in Riyadh to take part in the assembly, which is the first time that the KSA to host such a prestigious para-sport meeting.
During the four days of the official meeting, inaugurated by an AsPC Conference, followed by the General Assembly and finally, the elections for the AsPC Executive Board will take place.
Six Executive Board positions will be elected; President, two Vice Presidents, Chair of the Women in Sport Committee and two Members at Large. All 45 National Paralympic Committee members are eligible to nominate candidates for the election with the closing date for nominations the 30 August 2023.
The remaining positions of the 15-strong Executive Board will be taken by a Vice President who is a representative of the Organising Committee of the next Asian Para Games, Vice President Mukhtorkhon Tashkhodjaev, who is a representative of Tashkent 2025 Asian Youth Para Games Organising Committee, the Chairs of the APC’s six Standing Committees and sub-regional representatives.
In addition to the official business, the Asian Awards will be presented. The celebration of the best of Asian Para-sport will see six awards as well as the prestigious Asian Order which recognises outstanding contributions to the Paralympic Movement. Call for nominations for these have been already shared with the membership.
President Majid Rashed said: “I’m delighted that we are announcing our seventh General Assembly in Riyadh and I’d like to thank the KSA NPC for their generosity in hosting this key meeting for the Asian Paralympic Family. With a lot of important business to take place across the four days and coming a month after the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games, it will be a busy, productive, and exciting end to a big year for the Asian Paralympic Family.”
Ahead of the General Assembly, other elections will take at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games. The Athletes’ Committee election will elect the Chair and members of the sub-committee with nominations due by 31 August 2023. The election for sub-regional representatives who will sit on the Executive Board is where the NPCs in each sub-region will elect their representatives. The nomination process for this is currently underway and is due to conclude on 11 September 2023 when the list of candidates will be published.
