MADRID, September 19, 2023 - There is always bad, terrible news that leaves us cold. This rainy Sunday, September 17, has its own name. That of a companion. Amid so much selfishness, so much lying, so much egomania and so much stupidity we forget what really matters, and Pepe Domingo did matter. Because he contributed, added, not subtracted.
"In the early hours of this Sunday, September 17, Pepe Domingo Castaño Solar died at the age of 80 at the Zarzuela Hospital in Madrid," announced radio network Cadena COPE, his second home. The network has been flooded with endless messages of condolences and support for his family, colleagues and friends.
"The radio will never sound the same again without you, this family will never beat the same again without you but, for you, we will continue...," said his colleagues from 'Tiempo de Juego', who as a tribute to Castaño have promised to continue "filling the void that you left us with life and radio. "We love you Pepe, we love you and we will always love you as you have taught us, with joy and unity."
Pepe Domingo Castaño took his first steps on the airwaves at a very young age. At just 18 years old, he started his radio career at Radio Galicia without knowing that, with the passage of time, his voice would reach millions of Spanish homes.
Although he did not miss the opportunity to try all the media, his thing was always radio, the medium that he loved since he was a child. In 1988 he came to Cadena SER to give us his voice in 'Carrusel Deportivo', where he remained until 2010 when he moved to Cadena COPE, where he worked before leaving us.
Four Ondas Awards, the Joaquín Prat Radio Award granted by the Spanish Radio Academy, the National Award for Arts and Sciences Applied to Sports and countless recognitions make clear the importance and influence of Pepe Domingo Castaño. But his greatest reward was knowing that he was loved by millions of listeners of all ages, whose memories of the great sporting moments in Spain are linked to Castaño's voice.
From the Spanish Sports Press Association we send our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends. Rest in peace, Pepe Domingo.
