ANTWERP, September 28, 2023 - The city of Antwerp (BELGIUM) is currently hosting the 52nd edition of the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, a major qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. More than 430 athletes representing 72 countries are taking part in these competitions which are considered to be the last chance to qualify teams for Paris 2024. There will be further qualification opportunities for individual athletes at the Apparatus World Cups and the continental championship series next year.
For men, the favourites of the Antwerp team competition are the People's Republic of China, Japan and Great Britain, which have already qualified for Paris, but we also await with interest the developments of last year's finalists Italy, USA, Spain, Brazil and the Republic of Korea, as well as the teams from Germany, Canada, Turkey and France, so the battle to qualify for Paris 2024 will be tight.
In the women's team, the teams from the USA, Great Britain and Canada have already secured their places in Paris, but the developments of the teams from Brazil, Italy, Japan, China and France are expected, while the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Romania also have a great chance.
In the girls' individual competition, the stars of the USA (Simona Billes) and Brazil (Rebeca Andrade) are expected to have a big role but they will have a strong reply from Elisabeth Black (CAN), Melanie de Jesus dos Santos (FRA), Jessica Gadirova (GBR) Alice D'Amato (ITA), Ou Yushan (CHIN), Miyata Shoko (JPN) and Georgia Godwin (AUS).
In the men's category, Max Whitlock (GBR), Sun Wei and You Hao (CHN), Hashimoto Daiki (JPN), Carlos Edriel Yulo (PHI), Igor Radivilov and Illia Kovtun (UKR) are fighting for world supremacy.
