ESBJERG, September 30, 2023 - Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, has offered his heartfelt congratulations to Maryam Hamdy, the player of the Egyptian Darts National Team and the Egyptian Darts Federation, who won a historic bronze medal at the 2023 Darts World Cup in Denmark being held in Esbjerg from 22 September to 1 October 2023, with 54 countries taking part.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT The Minister praised this great achievement as no Arab or African player had ever reached this stage of the competition in the previous 23 editions of the Darts World Cup. Hamdy, whose name is registered in the competition as Mariam Abdelhafez, was able overturn a 2-1 deficit in the quarter-finals of the Girls Singles event to beat Mongolian player, Nomintuya Byambatsogt, 3-2, before meeting English player Paige Pauling, who is ranked number one in the WDF Girls Main Ranking, in the semi-finals and going on to claim the bronze medal. England is considered as one of the strongest countries when it comes to darts. Darts competitions originated in England. Pauling won the Girls Singles gold.

CELEBRATION After achieving this great feat, the members of the Egyptian delegation spent an excellent evening at the Hotel-Residence in the town of Esbjerg in Denmark, celebrating in great style. The Egyptian delegation also received warm congratulations from the delegations of the other countries taking part in the World Cup.
CONGRATULATORY MESSAGES His Excellency Karim Sharif, the Egyptian Ambassador to Denmark, and the World Darts Federation (WDF) also congratulated the Egyptian darts team on winning the bronze medal, the first major darts victory for Egypt, the Arab world and the African continent. The WDF published an article on its official website and also posted news about this "historic moment for Egyptian darts" on its social media.
