

ATHENS, January 9, 2024 - Miltiadis “Miltos” Tentoglou and Antigoni Drisbioti were named the top male and female athletes, respectively, in Greece for the second consecutive year by the Panhellenic Association of Sports Press (PSAT), at the 70th edition of the association’s “Celebration of the Top”. The men's national polo team was named the top team for winning the silver medal at the World Championship, and their coach, Thodoris Vlachos, was named the top coach for 2023.
Para athlete Athanasios Gavelas was honoured as the top male athlete with a disability, while para judoka Theodora Paschalidou received the top female athlete with a disability award. The national deaf women’s basketball team was crowned as the top team of athletes with disabilities for the second consecutive year.
Tentoglou is the reigning world long jump champion after scooping gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023. Earlier in the year he also secured a gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. Drisbioti earned a bronze medal at the World Championships in the 35km Race Walk.
BEST TEAM Alongside winning a silver medal at the World Championship, the top team of the year, the National Men’s Polo Team, also secured direct qualification to the Paris Olympic Games, with coach Vlachos demonstrating exceptional leadership throughout the tournament.
Two huge figures of Greek sports, Nikos Galis and Antonis Antoniadis, were honoured with special awards by the Board of Directors of PSAT, among the many sportsmen, sportswomen, personalities, clubs and sports bodies that were recognised for standing out during the year.
