LAVAL, February 6, 2024 - The city of Laval, in Mayenne, western France, hosted the inaugural Sports Journalism Festival. An event born out of an initiative by former Mayor of Laval, Jean-Christophe Boyer, with the support of the Union of Sports Journalists in France (UJSF).
This first edition was a real success, if not a triumph. Over 2500 people attended one of the many roundtable discussions organized in the capital of Mayenne. Sports journalists from various media outlets made the journey to discuss and answer the always interesting questions from the audience.

Launched with a Master Class between UJSF President Vincent Duluc and former president of Olympique Lyonnais football club Jean-Michel Aulas, the debates covered several interesting issues such as the role of sports commentators or the preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Documentaries sparking debate were also screened, one about the Lebrun brothers (two talented table tennis players) and another about "The Odyssey of the Olympic Games" by Jean-Christophe Rosé and Benoit Heimmermann.
An opportunity was also provided for the audience to meet journalists face-to-face for live discussions: "The Journalists' Counter" organized in the bars of several establishments in the city.

Finally, this festival was an opportunity to honor several colleagues. Longtime journalist at L'Equipe, where he was one of the best cycling specialists, Philippe Brunel was recognized for his writing skills, and Jean Rességuié for his work in radio. UJSF Vice President, our colleague Laurie Delhostal, received the Engagement Award.
