BERN, April 26, 2024 - It is our painful duty to inform you of the unexpected death of Gérard Bucher, President of the Swiss association sportpress.ch. Gérard died on Thursday night at the age of 71 following a brain stroke.
On behalf of the sections and the entire association, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We share their painful loss and our thoughts are with them. Gérard leaves behind 4 children.
Gérard Bucher was elected President of sportpress.ch in 2020 as Janine Geigele's successor, having previously held the position of Vice President for six years. Outside of the association, the member of the Vaud section, which he joined around 15 years ago, has always shown great commitment to sport and our industry.
In Gérard, we have not only lost a committed and accomplished sports journalist and a highly esteemed colleague, but also a friend. With his sociable manner, he shaped the Association's Central Board for many years. Dear Gérard, we are stunned and infinitely saddened. We will miss you!
Vice President Sandro Mühlebach will take over the management of the association on an interim basis in collaboration with the head office. We also ask that the family be allowed to mourn in peace
