PARIS, September 8, 2024 – In a great showdown at La Chapelle Arena, Iranian powerlifter Ahmad Aminzadeh claimed the gold medal in the over 107kg category at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
STRONGEST MAN Aminzadeh, in his third and final attempt, lifted an impressive 263kg, and got the title of the "Strongest Man of Paris Paralympics."
He had already secured the gold with his first lift of 253kg, following up with a successful 258kg lift in his second attempt.
OTHER MEDALLISTS Ukraine's Anton Kriukov took the silver medal after a dramatic final lift of 251kg, edging out Georgia's Akaki Jintcharadze, who lifted 250kg and had to settle for bronze.
Kriukov’s last lift pushed him ahead of Jintcharadze by just 1kg, showcasing the fierce competition in this weight class.
The Georgian athlete, Jintcharadze, lifted 250kg flawlessly, but the Ukrainian's narrow 1kg advantage shifted the final podium standings, Georgian got the Bronze medal.

HIGH LEVEL OF COMPETITION All top three athletes lifted their desired weights without any missed attempts, underscoring the high level of competition in Sunday's final.
OTHER COMPETITORS Colombia’s Lemus Eglain Antonio Mena finished fourth with a 236kg lift, while Liam McGarry of Great Britain, who initially faced a red light on his third attempt for 228kg, successfully challenged the decision. Upon video review, the lift was validated, earning McGarry fifth place.
Egypt’s Amr Mosaad, after lifting 225kg successfully, struggled in his second and third attempts for 235kg and 237kg, ending in sixth place.
Ghana’s Tahiru Haruna lifted 210kg in his first attempt but missed his subsequent tries at 221kg, securing seventh place.
DISAPPOINTMENT FOR DEFENDING CHAMPION Meanwhile, Tokyo 2020 Paralympics champion Jamil Elshebli from Jordan faced disappointment as he failed both attempts at 247kg and did not finish, despite receiving overwhelming support from the audience at La Chapelle Arena.
The competition was a thrilling display of power and precision, with Aminzadeh standing out as the new dominant force in Paralympic powerlifting.
