

ACCRA, September 9, 2024 – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has officially opened its new state-of-the-art secretariat in Accra, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s history.
The ceremony, which took place on Friday, August 30, 2024, was attended by top dignitaries from the sports and media industries, including officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Authority, National Sports Federations, Ghana Journalists Association and other stakeholders.
COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE In his keynote address, SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboah, expressed his gratitude to the guests and highlighted the significance of the new secretariat. “This edifice represents our commitment to excellence in sports journalism, our dedication to providing a conducive environment for our members to thrive and our quest to influence the development and promotion of sports in Ghana.”
The new secretariat is equipped with modern facilities designed to meet the needs of SWAG members and the sports journalism community. Guests were given a tour of the secretariat and SWAG members expressed their excitement.
HONOURING PAST PRESIDENTS During this momentous occasion, SWAG also paid tribute to its patrons and past presidents. The awardees were: H.E Amarkai Amarteifio, a former diplomat and chief patron of SWAG, Mr. Ebo Quansah, editor of the Chronicle and former SWAG President, Hon. Joe Aggrey, a renowned sports journalist, former SWAG President for 13yrs and former deputy Sports Minister, and Mr. Cudjoe Fianu, Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) chairman. They were decorated with customised gold medals,
SWAG General Secretary Charles Osei Asibey, expressed gratitude to the awardees for their unwavering support and guidance. “Your contributions have been instrumental in our growth and success. We are forever grateful for your dedication to SWAG and Ghanaian sports,” he said.
