

HAVANA, September 12, 2024 - With the presence of young journalists from several Latin American countries, another edition of the International Sports Journalism Postgraduate has begun in Havana, at the International Institute of Journalism Jose Marti of Cuba, which has the institutional support of AIPS America.
SCHOLARSHIP Eleven sports media colleagues from Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, Bolivia and Ecuador are part of the current cohort, thanks to the scholarship programme jointly promoted by AIPS America and AIPS, for the training of new generations of sports journalists. Of this group, five ladies stand out, in tune with the development of women in our profession.
TOPICS The postgraduate programme will run until September 18, and will cover topics related to sports communication, history, current trends in journalism, research, media, gender focus, photography, strategy, ethics and sports unions and organisations, among other relevant topics.
COLLABORATION This collaboration between AIPS America, through its scholarship programme, and the José Martí International Institute in Havana, Cuba, has benefited dozens of young sports journalists from AIPS member countries in the region since 2005. With each edition, the programme remembers the legacy of the great Cuban sports journalist, researcher and teacher Enrique Montesinos, one of the architects of this postgraduate course and the alliance with AIPS America.
BEST ATHLETE AWARD Within the framework of this postgraduate course, the Circle of Sports Journalists of Cuba will present the AIPS America Award to the athlete Yarislaidis Cirilo Duboys, World Champion of Canoe Sprint, chosen by AIPS America as the best female athlete of 2023.
