

SANTO DOMINGO, October 24, 2024 - In a historic visit to the Dominican Republic, Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), congratulated the Dominican Paralympic Committee (COPADOM) for the growth it has achieved in recent years and which has been reflected in the number of qualifiers in the last Paralympic Games.
Parsons offered his statements at the end of a visit to the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), accompanied by Eladio Agramonte and Bienvenido Zorrilla, president and general secretary of COPADOM, as well as Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of Centro Caribe Sports and IOC Member; Felipe Vicini and Rafael Blanco, president and head of the Paralympic division of Creating Olympic Dreams (CRESO by its acronym in Spanish)..
Andrew said that during his stay he was able to better understand what COPADOM is doing, together with the program Creating Olympic Dreams, this being the part of private companies, and the Dominican government through the Ministry of Sports.
The Paralympic leader is confident in the possibility of seeing the delegation of the Dominican Republic with greater achievements in the cycle that is approaching towards Los Angeles 2028, because the sectors that have supported adapted sports through COPADOM, show interest in continuing with the popularization of para-sports practice in high performance.
“Now is the time to focus on strengthening COPADOM, with the support of CRESO and the Government, because the numbers have improved Games after Games,” said Parsons.
During his visit, the president of the IPC took part in several activities of CRESO and COPADOM, and also, he visited the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, and the presidency of the Republic.
