Sileshi Sihin elected President of Ethiopian Athletics Federation

ADDIS ABABA, December 23, 2024 - Olympic and World Championship multiple silver medalist Sileshi Sihin, representing the Oromia regional state has been elected as Ethiopian Athletics Federation President at the federation's 28th General Assembly held at Ethiopian Skylight hotel on 22 December, in Addis Ababa.
Sileshi, who get 11 votes out of 27 registered a narrow victory against his rival Gebreegziabher Gebremariam, a fellow former Olympian, in a highly contested election.
After securing victory in the most closely followed election process in recent history, Sileshi has promised to work closely with all stakeholders to regain the trust and love of the public towards the sport.
"We have a lot to work, but the first thing I will do is talking to my new fellow executive committee members to take all of their ideas and formulate a unified roadmap to take the sport to a better level from where we are now in the next four years," Sileshi said.
Silesh Sihin, who is not only a celebrated athlete himself but also the husband of legendary athlete Tiruneh Dibaba, has a mountainous task to accomplish in his term at office; from modernizing and restructuring the secretariat of the federation to securing finance, improving training facilities and amending different rules and regulations of the institution.
Athlete Meseret Defar, Mrs. Sarah Hassan, Mrs. Ababa Yoseph, Dr. Efrah Mohammed, Mr. Admasu Saji, Mr. Biniam Mirutse, Engineer Getu Geremew and
Dr. Tizazu Mose were also elected as Executive Committee members of the federation to accompany Sileshi, "The Silver Man", as he is best known for his silver medal prowess during his professional career as a runner, at the helm of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation.
