

LAUSANNE, March 15, 2025 - The Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers that will be held on the second week of April, either between April 10-12 or 11-13, 2025 will include the participation of four nations from the American continent, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and United States.
Brazil will face Czechia and Spain
Captain Luiz Peniza decided on a different team than the one that played in the play-offs in November last year against Argentina. For this tie he joins a team led by the experienced Beatriz Haddad Maia, current number 17 in the world ranking, along with Laura Pigossi, second ranked player in the country; Luiza Fullana, who received the second call from the Brazilian team; Luisa Stefani number 32 in the doubles ranking and who returns after an injury, and with the debutant Ana Candiotto, a 20-year-old player.

Those called up by captain Heidi El Tabakh who will play against Rumania and Japan are: Rebecca Marino, the 34 year old player and part of the 2023 champion team, joins the team for the thirteenth time; Marina Stakusic: she is also part of the successful 2023 and takes her third nomination the BJKC; Victoria Mboko, an 18 year old tennis player, with 20 victories, holds the Brazilian record of most matches won in the main singles’ draw in professional tournaments; Kayla Cross, a player who stands out in the doubles category, in 204 she won 7 titles, six of them in that modality, and Ariana Arseneault also a doubles player, won two titles in 2024 with Cross as a partner, and is currently the third best doubles player of the year in her country.

Colombia to play Australia and Kazakhstan
The Colombia-Colsanitas team that will travel to Brisbane is made up of Camila Osorio as the country’s No. 1 Player, the current number 53 in the WTA ranking achieved one of her most significant victories this past week, after defeating four-time Grand Slam champion, Naomi Osaka; Emiliana Arango, 24-year-old player, who played her first professional final in early March 2025, losing to Emma Navarro, number 8 in the WTA ranking; Yuliana Lizarazo, currently the fourth best single player and the third ranked doubles in Colombia, is the current single champion of the W35 Mosquera and the doubles champion of the W75 Caserta, and María Paulina Pérez, who holds one doubles title, the WTA250 Monterrey in 2023, won alongside Lizarazo. All of them were ratified by captain Alejandro González, taking into account that the same four players defeated France last year during the play-offs, advancing to this qualifiers stage.

The North-Americans who will face Slovakia and Denmark in Bratislava are Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, McCartney Kessler, Desirae Krawczyk, and Asia Muhammad, with Lindsay Davenport as captain. Pegula, 31, is ranked second in the U.S. singles and has won every one of her BJKC qualifying matches over the past three years. Collins has reached four consecutive BJKC finals matches and holds a 7-2 record in singles matches at the competition. Kessler, who has been competing on the WTA tour for just two years, has reached three finals and won two titles. This is her first call-up to the BJKC national team. Muhammad receives her second nomination to the national team, in her doubles debut (2022), she achieved a significant victory alongside Pegula, allowing the USA to advance to the finals. Krawczyk, a doubles specialist, has won four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles and 15 on the WTA Tour.
