

TBILISI, March 17, 2025 - Some things just never change. The Georgian Handball National Team handed Bosnia two losses in a row within four days. Georgia first hosted Bosnia in Tbilisi on March 13 in a fierce clash between both rivals. The host took a slim lead from the start, had a 15:14 advantage at a break and secured a 28:26 victory.
In the second clash on March 16, Georgia, as a visitor, beat Bosnia 22:20, after a 12-10 advantage at the break, taking an important step towards qualifying for the 2026 European Championship set to take place from 15 January – 1 February in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Georgia controlled the both games with confidence and now sits in the second place in Group 3 of the qualifiers. Iceland (with a 33:21 win over Greece) is the leader of the group with 8 points, while Georgia has 4. Bosnia and Greece have 2 points each. Iceland has officially qualified for the championship.
The Man of the match for Georgia in the second game against Bosnia was the team captain Teimuraz Orjonikidze, with 6 goals. Giorgi Dikhaminjia and Giorgi Tskhovrebadze each scored 5. It was well balanced team effort, that Bosnia was not able to overcome. Georgia defended well and never lost control of the game.
Georgia has two more games ahead. First, Greece comes to Tbilisi on May 8th and then a battle in Iceland on May 11th will conclude the qualification stage. Georgia deserves to be among handball's elite and is eager and prepared for any test at this stage, having progressed in the international rankings in recent years.
These games against Bosnia showed the team spirit of the Georgian National team, as well as some individual craftiness of the young stars. They are determined to give the country a well deserved qualification for the European Championship. Some areas in the team still need improvement but step by step, Georgia has grown in confidence.
